A MIDI workstation

The layout and the connections of your MIDI workstation can vary greatly depending on the equipment you are using. It can be as simple as a computer & a MIDI keyboard, or it can be much more complex with sound modules, mixing desks and amplifiers.

Once your computer has Cubase installed you’ll need some device to ‘play’ the notes into it: a MIDI keyboard. Then you’ll need something to hear the music back through, often computer speakers or even headphones.

Here are a couple of examples of  ‘typical’ MIDI workstations
A simple workstation

MIDI Workstation Setup

This is one of the simplest setups: MIDI keyboard – computer – Speakers/headphones

More Complex Setup

This is a more complex setup involving a sound module instead of the computer’s own sounds and a mixer/amplifier to output the sounds.
